Official trading currency
The official trading, clearing and settlement currency of NASDAQ OMX Tallinn is the Euro (EUR).
The official trading currency, clearing and settlement currency of NASDAQ OMX Riga is the Lat (LVL). For the securities traded in euro or dollar on NASDAQ OMX Riga markets the payment will be in respective currency.
The official trading currency, clearing and settlement currency of NASDAQ OMX Vilnius is the Euro (EUR). Where bonds are issued in Litas (LTL), trading in bonds shall be executed in Litas, and where bonds are issued in Euros, trading in bonds shall be executed in Euros.
Benefits for investors and market of changing the trading and settlement currency to the Euro: - Moving over to euro as the trading and clearing currency paves the way for greater investment flows into the market, boosting its liquidity and depth, which will benefit all current and potential investors.
- The increased flow of capital would narrow the spreads and improve likelihood of investor’s order execution reducing total cost of trading
- Investors who are trading on multiple markets will have smaller currency conversion costs when changing their investment positions from one market to the other
- Trading and clearing in a currency which is widely accepted on the global financial markets will lead to lighter internal controls and compliance procedures for foreign institutional investors
This move is another major step in making the Baltic market better accessible and more attractive to market participants and investors, alongside the common trading system INET, Baltic membership, harmonized market model and trading rules, and settlement links among the Baltic depositories. NASDAQ OMX Riga will move along with its plan to introduce trading in euro in the near future.
Tick size and trading lots
Smallest tick size is the minimum price rate set for a security, by which the broker can alter the transaction orders and buy confirmations displayed in the trading system. The smallest tick sizes for stocks listed on the Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius stock exchanges are 0.001 EUR, 0.001 LVL, and 0.001 EUR, respectively.
The minimum lot is the minimum quantity set for each security, which may be entered in the trading system as a transaction order. The minimum lot for securities is one - hence, even the smallest order can be entered in the trading system.
