Securities are kept and securities are traded in dematerialised form. The electronic register of publicly issued securities and securities transactions is registered at the Latvian central registry of securities, which is maintained by Latvian Central Depository. The same register also includes securities as well as funded pensions accounts.
Regulated and OTC market
Regulated secondary market in Latvia is maintained by NASDAQ OMX Riga. NASDAQ OMX Riga is a self-regulated organisation, issuing and enforcing its own rules and regulations consistent with standard exchange operating procedures. OTC market trades are registered at Latvian Central Depository.
Market supervision
The securities market is regulated and supervised by the Finance and Capital Market Commission (FKTK). The FKTK conducts supervision of the securities market in the name of the state in order to enhance the stability and reliability of the entire financial sector. The NASDAQ OMX Riga performs market supervision over market participants and issuers of securities traded on the market, with respect to the price formation of the securities traded on the market, conclusion and execution of transactions and fulfillment of provisions of the Rules and Regulations adopted by the Exchange.
Types of securities
Law on Financial Instrument Market stipulates the following types of securities: - share; - bond or other debt instrument; - subscription right; - investment fund unit; - derivatives; - depository receipt.
